Atlas of Loss

Jayraj Patil

Work from Jayraj Patil's Atlas of Loss series

Atlas of Loss is an ongoing artistic inquiry into environmental change and the memories embedded within the landscape. Combining painting, installation and documentary film, the project gathers materials from threatened coastlines to create works that bear witness to places in transition.

Made with local clay, house debris and coconut-ash pigment collected from the site, the works carry the physical traces of a changing landscape. Rather than documenting a place, the series maps disappearance — exploring loss, memory and the fragile relationship between land and those who inhabit it.

Works in the series

Shifting Sands · Swaha · The Frontier · Mr. Navin’s Dream House · Naked Estuary · Nothing For Us Here.
